GRAND BLANC TWP., Mich. (WNEM) – The Food Castle in Grand Blanc Township, located in mid-Michigan, sold the winning ticket for the massive $842 million Powerball jackpot on Monday night.
This jackpot is the second-largest ever won in Michigan, with a cash value lump sum of $425.2 million.
The identity of the winner remains unknown until they contact the Lottery.
The last Powerball jackpot won by a Michigan player was in 2020 when a resident of Waterford won $70 million.
On Jan. 2, TV5 interviewed Bill Nannoshi, the owner of the 30-year-old store where the winning ticket was purchased. Nannoshi expressed his excitement, stating that it is usually news like this that happens in other states, so it is great for the community of Grand Blanc.
To claim the jackpot, the winner must submit an online claim and visit the Lottery Headquarters in downtown Lansing.
Some of Food Castle’s regular customers visited the store on Tuesday to share their excitement over the news. Susie, one of the salesclerks, expressed her hope that the winner is someone local and that they will use the prize in a positive way. She also mentioned that all the customers are thrilled that something positive is happening in Grand Blanc.
Juan, a resident of Grand Blanc Township and a customer of Food Castle, shared his thoughts on the Powerball drawing. He expressed his happiness for the winner, even though it wasn’t him, and mentioned that it is nice to see someone from their town win instead of it always happening in other states.
